Cachagua Fire

SUPPORT	CACHAGUA FIRE Cachagua Fire provides fire suppression and emergency medical services to the rural and mountainous areas at the eastern end of Carmel Valley, known as the Cachagua area. The Cachagua Fire Protection District was formed on October 12, 1993 at the request of community residents who wanted to create an agency that could levy an assessment to support the operation of the existing volunteer fire company. The District comprises approximately 110 square miles of territory and serves over 1,000 residents. A three-member elected Board of Directors governs the District, and 29 active members volunteer to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services. A benefit assessment is the primary source of funding for the District. SAVING LIVES SINCE 1976

	4/6/12	Smoke On The Road Cachagua Fire responded to a report of heavy smoke in the Sleepy Hollow area this afternoon. Patrol 7751 discovered that the smoke originated from a legal controlled burn. Engine 7731 was canceled and all units returned safely.
	4/1/12	F-150 Off The Road A Ford F150 was discovered off the roadway at the 22.1 mile mark on Carmel Valley Road. Battalion Chief 7702 arrived on scene but was unable to locate the vehicle's occupant. The victim was reportedly walking down Carmel Valley Road with a limp but could not be found. All units canceled.
	3/24/12	Heavy Smoke Observed Several reports of heavy smoke in the Sky Ranch Estates area resulted in Cachagua fire being paged out. The fire turned out to be a controlled burn and all units were canceled.
	3/10/12	Medical Response Cachagua Fire responded to a medical on Cachagua Road today. The patient was successfully transported to CHOMP by ambulance.
	3/4/12	Structure Fire Cachagua Fire responded to a structure fire at Poppy Tree Lane at 1:48 am. A 1200 sq ft workshop and two cars were fully involved upon arrival. No one was injured. The cause was determined to be an inadequate clearance around a fuel reduction burn. Estimated damages is approx $175,000.
	3/3/12	Motorcycle Accident Three occupants of a motorcycle with sidecar (2 small children in the sidecar) left the road for unknown reasons, rolled over into Tularcitos Creek, pinning the driver under the bike in the creek bed. After extricating the driver, he was transported to Sleepy Hollow where E5514 had established a landing zone, and transported to San Jose by CALSTAR 2. The children were evaluated for injuries and were OK.
	1/31/12	Illegal Burn Cachagua Fire responded to an illegal burn in the Lambert Flats area this morning. Heavy smoke was observed by a passing motorist at the intersection of Carmel Valley and Tassaraja Rds. Several illegal burn piles were found and a Cal Fire Prevention Officer is investigating. 	1/24/12	Congratulations Firefighter Curry Cachagua Fire would like to congratulate Firefighter Heather Curry, who recently passed both her EMT and National Registry test. She has now been promoted from Probationary Firefighter to Firefighter-EMT. We are very proud of her dedication and commitment to Cachagua Fire. Congratulations Firefighter Curry!
	1/21/12	Burn Ban Lifted Due to recent rainfall amounts, Cal Fire chiefs have lifted the burn ban for Monterey County.
	12/19/11	Congratulations Firefighter Reimer Cachagua Fire would like to congratulate Firefighter Shane Reimer, who graduated from the Monterey Peninsula Fire Academy on Dec 15th. Shane was recognized as a Dedicated Recruit of the class and was awarded an educational grant of $1,000. Congratulations Firefighter Reimer. We are all very proud of you and your accomplishments.
	12/15/11	Santa is coming! Cachagua Fire wants to remind you that Santa will be visiting children on Christmas Eve again this year. If you would like Santa to visit your home, please drop off a wrapped gift to the Cachague Firehouse on Nason Rd or at the Cachagua General Store. Please be sure to write the child's name, the address, and your phone number (in case Santa needs directions) on each gift. Merry Christmas from Cachagua Fire.
	11/13/11	7 year old is a hero A 7 year old child called 9-1-1 this afternoon after spotting a fire burning outside the child's home on Cachagua Road. Cachagua Fire responded at 1:22 pm to the report of fire outside the home. Captain Derek Bonsper was on scene minutes later and was able to put the fire out. Battalion Chief Jaime del Valle reports that it appeared that a faulty transformer had caused the fire. If it weren't for the quick-thinking 7 year old, things could have been a lot worse. We are all very proud of Cachagua's newest 7-year-old hero.
	10/28/11	Cachagua Fire Responds To A Medical Shortly Before Midnight A medical emergency was dispatched by the Emergency Command Center at 23:59:56 last night. Rescue 7761 and Battalion 7702 responded and were on scene in a matter of minutes.
	10/16/11	Cachagua Fire Prevents Another Vegetation Fire A fueling vehicle was on fire near the Shelley residence on Parrot Ranch Road this morning. A full wildland response was launched by Cal Fire. Cachagua Fire was supported with Battalion 4611, Engine 4661, Engine 4681, Engine 4691, Engine 4677, Engine 4673, Dozer 4641, and Gabilan Crew 3. Cachagua Fire responded with Battalion Chief 7702, both Engines 7731 and 7732, Water Tender 7742, Rescue 7761, and the rest of the volunteers. Chief del Valle was one of the first on scene. The fire was extinguished and all of the Cal Fire equipment was cancelled. Cachagua Fire responded within 3 min 9 secs of the call being paged out and were on the scene of the fire within 10 min 37 secs. This is a phenomenal response time given how remote the location. Kudos to the men and women of Cachagua Fire who protect our community.
	9/20/11	Commissioner Bonsper touts the skills and expertise provided by Cachagua Fire to the citizens of Monterey County in his letter to the editor. Cachagua Fire a bright spot In these times of budget deficits, runaway debt, unemployment and generally depressing news, it is reassuring to find a bright spot. That positive piece of life is the protection provided by the all volunteer Cachagua Fire Protection District, which is just a phone call away in times of need. The department responded to 19 calls in July and August, providing a level of response that rivals that of large, paid departments. The 19 responses included two vegetation fires, three motorcycle accidents, four vehicle accidents and eight medical assistance calls. Many of these efforts were executed under severe conditions of terrain, weather and darkness and resulted in the saving of lives. Thank you, Cachagua Fire, for all that you do. Don Bonsper Cachagua
